WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

In the 21st century, health is a shared responsibility, involving equitable access to essential care and collective defence against transnational threats.

WHO is reforming to be better equipped to address the increasingly complex challenges of the health of populations in the 21st century. From persisting problems to new and emerging public health threats, WHO needs to be flexible enough to respond to this evolving environment.

 

 

Children of Nature Project


“Anadha Pillalu” in telugu and orphans in english are both disgraceful words. Therefore Dr. Surya Rao coined a new term children of nature for those children who are living under the sun, sky, moon, of the streets and on the streets without any parents and family support and exposed to all calamities. Dr. Surya Rao’s work for the welfare of the children in difficult circumstances, through Child Foundation of India which he established in 1990 got National recognition. He looks after the general health of the women and special children of the sex workers, red light areas and economically and socially deprived sections of the society

Health Training for Tribal’s

He has also trained 15150 health volunteers with the collaboration of St.John Ambulance Association in first aid and power medicine and primary health care from the rural, tribal, slums and urban areas .Now they are extending health services in every rural community of coastal Andhra Pradesh.

       Dr. Rao has been continuing his mission with strong will power and responds to every malady of society whether it is menace of stray dog bites and rabies, or hepatitis due to drinking contaminated water or emergence of Malaria outbreak in tribal belts. He puts great effort to make a healthy community. His mammoth campaigns on the importance of washing hands with soap and water, as frequently as possible to prevent infections such as typhoid, hepatitis-A, Bacillary dysentery, worm infestations; swine flu has resulted in transformation of large number of people in the society. Fifty plus suryarao even now sees patients 14 hours a day, conducts counseling, free health clinics, health education meetings and he is on call twenty-four hours a day for any medical aid to the needy.
